Golf Holiday Baggage Checklist: Clubs, Shoes, Balls, Clothes and Bags

A golf holiday has more baggage decisions than a normal city break. You may need clubs, shoes, waterproofs, balls, gloves, a rangefinder, normal clothes, and possibly a trolley or buggy plan at the destination.
That is why golf holidays should be searched with baggage included from the start.
The golf baggage checklist
Use this checklist before comparing flights:

Golf bag plus suitcase
Many golfers need two checked items: one golf bag and one normal suitcase. That is where prices can change quickly.
On one airline, the golf bag may fit into your checked baggage allowance. On another, it may be a sports equipment fee. On a third, the base fare may include no checked baggage at all.
If you only compare the base fare, you may choose the wrong airline.
Weigh the bag before you book
Do not guess the weight of a golf travel bag. Weigh it with everything inside.
Golf balls, shoes, waterproofs, towels, and hard cases can push the total up. Carrier limits and charges are time-sensitive. The airline sources above show how their sports-equipment categories work, but this checklist deliberately does not copy a fixed allowance: record the current figure from the rule for your operating airline and fare when you book.
Those rules make the full packed weight important.
Check whether the golf bag can include clothes
Some travellers pack clothes around clubs as padding. That may work physically, but it may not match the airline’s sports equipment policy.
British Airways, for example, says a golf bag may include golf items such as clubs, a golf umbrella, balls, tees, and shoes. For some other sports equipment, BA specifically warns against packing clothes and personal items with the equipment.
The practical advice is simple: if you need the clothes, compare a normal checked bag as well.
Build in airport time
Golf bags often go through oversized baggage. That can mean a separate drop-off point and extra time at departure.
Do not book a tight airport plan around a golf bag. If the airline asks for advance notice or earlier outsize baggage drop-off, follow that guidance.
Group golf trips
Golf groups should compare baggage as a group, not as individual fares.
Four golfers may need:
- Four golf bags.
- Four cabin bags.
- Two or more checked suitcases.
- Seat choices.
- Transfers with space for long bags.
If one airline has a lower fare but higher sports equipment charges, the total group cost can move quickly.
